LAKE ARGYLE & KUNNUNURRA

During our drive to Lake Argyle there was some wildlife on the road, we had a near miss with a wallaby, a stubborn cow which was slowly crossed the road in front of us, and a huge long legged bird that struggled to get airborne and out of the way.

We crossed over into Western Australia (had to stop for another Ranger photo at the welcome sign) and made our way down Lake Argyle road.  The girls were so excited to see their Litchfield friends, Lucia and Chelsea.

We headed to the infinity pool, it was so bloody cold (Brad’s conspiracy theory is that they keep it that cold to encourage people to do the cruises, which includes a swim in the lake).  It didn’t stop the girls having a quick dip.

The caravan park bistro had happy hour and free wifi from 4.30 so we headed down there to try and Skype Nanna and Pa but it wasn’t very successful.  Entertainment then started at 5.30 so we hung out and had a few drinks at the bar and the girls had a dance.  Once Darryl, Raelene, Lucia and Chelsea had returned from their cruise, we all hung out at the bar for way too long.  The girls all giggled and had fun, even dragged up the parents for a dance.

There was a group of boys playing footy just outside the bar so the 5 strong girl possie challenged them to a game.  It got pretty physical and I am proud to say the girls more than held their own LOL

Next day we, together with the De Ross-Field, went for a hike to the Durrak Homestead.  IT was a good little walk.  The Homestead was moved, stone by stone (each one numbered and relocated) to its new location as it was previously located where the Lake currently resides.

It got hot on the walk so we all jumped in the freezing infinity pool.

We had worked up and appetite so headed to the bistro for a lunch date with Darryl and Raelene (we made all the kids sit at a different table lol).  As with all great big lunch outings, a little nap was required by me.

The 5 girls had become great friends very quickly and set up a tent for a sleepover.  Next morning they were all still a little tired from the excitement of the sleepover.

We then headed to Kununurra to stock up on groceries before heading on the Gibb River Road 11 days expedition.  Brad was getting a bit concerned with the fridge being able to handle all our drink and food requirements on the Gibb River rd as the fridge had been struggling, he bit the bullet and purchased a Waeco.  After spending too much money on food, drinks and souvenir (and a Waeco) we went for a swim in the pool, again with cold water.

That night thousands of bats flew over Lake Kununurra and we kicked back, ate a huge bowl of vegies and watched a movie (thanks Be)
